August is the height of fall armyworm activity on lawns, sports fields, golf courses, and other turfgrass areas in Alabama. Scouting is key to dealing with fall armyworms in turf, as they can damage large areas quickly. Although the damage is not permanent, it can be very unsightly and is a special concern in sports fields which may have little recovery time in the fall. Walking fileds looking for armyworms and /or flushing them up from the thatch with a soap flush will allow sports field managers to find and treat for fall armyworms before they can cause severe problems.
