After the Hunt flyer.jpg‚ÄčTo many outdoor enthusiasts, springtime in Alabama includes early mornings in the woods listening for the distant gobble of the Eastern Wild Turkey. The close of turkey season at the end of April leaves many outdoorsmen wondering what to do with their time. If you are one of these people, you may be interested in a new Extension workshop titled "After The Hunt:  Year-Round Wildlife Management". The After The Hunt workshop was designed to discuss wildlife management practices and wildlife habitat improvements that can be accomplished between the end of turkey season and the opening of bow season for deer. At this workshop, natural resource professionals will discuss topics like summer forages and food plots, forestry management practices for wildlife habitat enhancement, wild pig control, predator management, improvements to roads and culverts, invasive plants and herbicide use, as well as information on conducting camera surveys to inventory wildlife populations on your hunting properties. Participants will also go outside for demonstrations on predator traps, trap sets, and information on laws and regulations regarding predator trapping.

The After The Hunt Workshop will be held on May 13th at the Prattville Bass Pro Shops inside the Islamorada Fish Company Restaurant, and at the Dale County Extension Office on June 3rd in Ozark, Alabama.  The workshop will begin with registration starting at 8:30 am and will conclude around 2:00pm. The workshop fee will be $20.00 and will include lunch. Online registration is available for the Prattville workshop at http://www.aces.edu/go/730 or by calling the Elmore County Extension Office at (334) 567-6301.  Online registration for the Dale County workshop is available at http://www.aces.edu/go/731 or by calling the Dale County Extension Office at (334) 774-2329.
