Cleaning might seem like the last thing to do, but it certainly is a good start to the post-disaster living.

I would recommend to first clear the clutter, throw unnecessary items away, etc. After that you are ready to apply the solutions mentioned in this post.

At Cleaning House London we have cleaned after a flood caused by a broken pipe. However, the place needed restoration more than cleaning.

Best ‘mistake’ I ever made was cooking the bird upside down. The turkey in question was so big I couldn’t tell which side was which until we went to carve it. It was the most moist bird and ever since I have cooked them upside down until the last hour. Then spin and let the skin crisp up. No basting involved. Very moist!

Yes, choosing a location is critical.  You need to consider cost of rent vs. foot traffic.  In our area, parking is often a key consideration, too.  If customers need to pay for parking, they are less likely to come - not only because they have to pay for the meters, but also remember to keep adding quarters.

Great article Kristin!

I never paid any attention to dried foods up until I changed my diet.  I now strive to eat 80% "living" foods aka "raw food diet" and have already noticed the benefits.

My skin has cleared up, eyesight has improved along with a few other personal things I'd rather not share.

Dehydrating fruits/vegetables and herbs is super nutritious keeping all enzymes in tact and most importantly really tasty!

@Mark I have heard mixed reviews on halogen ovens.  In theory, they should coook well and lock in the juices on a small turkey.  Unfortunately, it seems that allot of people have problems with items not cooking through.  It would probably depend on the particular oven you are using.  The improtant thing is that the turkey should reach 165 F on the inside.

@Bob That's a really good question.  Typically baking is not affected by altitude, but just about everything else is.  Colorado State has some excellent resources for cooking at an altitude http://www.ext.colostate.edu/pubs/foodnut/p41.html

Maybe cooking your turkey at higher temperatures reduces your cooking time, and thus reduces the opportunity for evaporation of the turkey juices - just a guess though.

"Stuffing should be prepared and stuffed into the turkey immediately before it's placed in the oven at 325°F."

Consumer habits have changed massively over the last 5-10 years.  Even die hard traditionalists are opting to read news online as opposed to traditional printed media as they are more upto date.

I agree that you need to look at the potential market.  The issue is that this has extended to online sites which is incredibly diverse.  The good news is that whilst "readership" may be smaller it can be incredibly niche.

Hey Kristin,

I've always store my apples in the fridge the moment I buy them from the supermarket. Never heard of this rule that you should only keep it in there after 7 days. Interesting though... Know about the bananas and sweet potatoes. I've got a friend who refrigerates his bananas and then turns black and yet he still eats it!!

How disgusting.... :S
