Farming Basics.pngThe Alabama Beginning Farmer Program is now offering the "Farming Basics" online curriculum as a self-paced learning system for beginning farmers, educators, and anyone interested in best farming practices. There is no cost for this training. The course has five core learning areas with 27 modules on various topics. The major topic areas  include Marketing & Farm Management, Pesticide Safety, Food Safety, Basic Crop Production, and Pest Management. Subject matter experts from several Extension teams and collaborators provided the useful content that is available free of cost to anyone interested. To enroll, visit and then watch the introductory video to learn about the interactive learning system. This ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act, 1990) compliant course includes notes, videos, and quizzes to make the learning process fun and easy. It also generates a unique completion certificate based on your registration information. The course must be completed within 60 days of initiation and it saves participant progress for the duration. In addition to the online course, growers are encouraged to check out for a complete list of on-farm support services and educational resources available in print and alternative formats.

Continuous Education Units (CEUs): The Amercian Agronomy Society has provided 4 CEUs for students completing the curriculum. For queries, please contact Ann Chambliss (Program Assistant).
