August 27, 2014— The Alabama Department of Agriculture and Industries and the Alabama Cooperative Extension System are offering an Agricultural Pesticide Clean Day Sept. 3 in Baldwin County and Sept. 4 in Henry County. The events will offer farmers and landowners the opportunity to properly dispose of both known and unidentified pesticide waste products at no charge, anonymously.
Accepted items include fungicides, herbicides, insecticides, adjuvants, defoliants and growth retardants weighing no more than 1,000 pounds per vehicle. Products not accepted include, but are not limited to, explosives or ordinance materials, compressed gas cylinders, petroleum products, paints, tires, medical waste, radioactive materials, dioxin precursors or seeds and empty pesticide containers. The Alabama Department of Agriculture and Industries has an existing program enabling the recovery of empty pesticide containers, and information regarding this program will be available at the event.
Participants are responsible for the safe transportation of waste products and will be accountable for any spillage or damages made prior to the transaction. Overpack material is available to ensure prevention against spillage or leakage.
To participate in this one-time event, those interested must complete a registration form. Registration is accepted on a first come-first serve basis. When received forms total 80,000 pounds of waste, additional forms can no longer be accepted.
