The Alabama Beef Cattle Improvement Association (BCIA) named the recipient of the 2013 Outstanding Extension Educator during their 50th Anniversary Celebration and Annual Meeting held recently in Jemison.

Alabama BCIA honored Brenda Glover with this award for her support and implementation of beef cattle performance programs in Alabama. Michelle Elmore, an Extension animal scientist, says Glover exhibits professionalism, knowledge and desire to educate cattle producers, which are essential skills to excel as an Extension educator. She has planned, promoted and conducted numerous programs on forage and hay quality, beef cattle health and pesticide training. She has also hosted adult and youth dairy events and several livestock tours.

“Brenda is knowledgeable of the livestock industry, the needs of cattle producers and is always ready and willing to help,” Elmore says. “She is a leader within the Extension Animal Science and Forages Team in designing and delivering Extension programs in her region of west Alabama and is particularly gifted in promoting programs and events.”

She adds Glover is a valuable asset because of her experience in the dairy industry, livestock marketing and the stocker industry. Brenda has served on the Alabama BCIA Board of Directors and serves an active role in BCIA events in her region.

The Alabama BCIA is a non-profit organization to promote, educate and facilitate the use of performance data, record keeping and marketing opportunities to improve the Alabama cattle industry. Formed in 1964, BCIA cooperates with the Alabama Cooperative Extension System under a formal agreement.
