Alabama Extension recently named Chris Becker as the County Extension Coordinator for Limestone County. Becker has been a resident of North Alabama for more than 20 years and has served that area as a regional Extension agent in the Home Grounds, Gardens and Home Pests program area for the past six years.
"I have enjoyed every minute of my Extension career so far. My time as a regional Extension agent was very fulfilling and I am excited about my new role as the Limestone County Extension Coordinator. I look forward to working with the Limestone County staff and the agents that serve Limestone County," said Becker.
As a regional Extension agent, Becker provided horticultural guidance to the public within a six-county region. He developed and managed a volunteer workforce of Master Gardeners whose volunteer contributions were valued at $200,000 in 2014. Becker also coordinated the Florence Community Garden project, which produced more than 2,000 pounds of produce for impoverished community members. As Limestone County Coordinator Becker will use his experience as a regional Extension agent in educating and serving the public to coordinate Extension programs in Limestone County.
A graduate of Alabama A&M University, Becker received his undergraduate degree in plant and soil science in 2005 and received his master's degree in adult education from Auburn University in 2014.
"As a former regional Extension agent, Chris excelled in being creative, planning, implementation and evaluation of ACES programs. Further, he was excellent with people and served his geographical area tirelessly and with passion as a leader and subject matter expert. I know he will bring these same qualities to his role as the new County Extension Coordinator in Limestone County," said Stan Windham, Extension assistant director, Program Operations and Innovations.
